Game mod for Civilization: Beyond Earth · Commission
Fabrication Magrails and Leaf Affinity
A Civilization Beyond Earth mod for Rising Tide. Magrails unlock at Fabrication again, and affinity moves from the main techs to their leaf techs, so each leaf gives 27 instead of 20.

What the client needed
Rising Tide moved Magrails from Fabrication to a leaf tech and spread affinity over 26 main techs, often two or three at once. The client wanted Magrails back at Fabrication and affinity to come from the leaf techs.
What I built
Two focused changes to the tech web and nothing else. Workers build Magrails right after Fabrication again, and each main tech’s +7 affinity moves to the matching leaf tech, so leaves give 27 instead of 20.
The result
Total affinity stays at 351 per affinity, so the balance holds. Tooltips are updated in all 11 languages, and the mod is out on Nexus Mods and the Steam Workshop.
Client review
“Mod runs great! The game is so great with this change. No more cities looking weird because you have to much of one affinity! It runs great, and I can actually build buildings that I don't usually build (augmentary).”
Magrails are back at Fabrication
Rising Tide moved Magrails from Fabrication to the Civil Support leaf tech. With this mod, Workers can build Magrails as soon as you research Fabrication, as in the base game.
- Civil Support still unlocks the Holomatrix.
- Magrail build time, movement, upkeep and the city connection bonus are unchanged.
Affinity comes from leaf techs
In Rising Tide, 26 main techs give +7 Harmony, Purity or Supremacy, often to two or three affinities at once. This mod moves each of those points to the leaf tech of that branch that already gives the same affinity, so that leaf gives 27 instead of 20.
- Total affinity from techs is unchanged: 351 per affinity, as in Rising Tide.
- Hybrid units, upgrades and perks are untouched. Hybrid progress now comes from researching leaf techs of both affinities.
- Affinity level requirements, quests, artifacts and every other source of affinity stay the same.
For example, Computing used to give +7 Purity and +7 Supremacy. Now it gives nothing, and Transcendental Math and Autonomous Systems give +27 instead of +20.
Good to know
- Requires the Rising Tide expansion.
- Tooltips are updated in all 11 languages the game supports.
- Start a new game with the mod. Don’t add it to or remove it from a campaign in progress.
- Enable it from the MODS button on the main menu, not Single Player.
